real toys are NOT always required...

as i’m working away on my edits, i hear “miss amara eden” (we tend to use this version of her name when messes or knottiness is occurring), rifling in the shoe closet.  i, being somewhat of a neat freak ask what she is doing in the closet, seeing as we were not planning on leaving the house any time soon.  “miss eden” replies, “i need boats mamma”.  now I have to be honest, sometimes i don’t have the energy to redirect her and i let the mess ensue. when i finally leave my chair to see what she's up to, i realized how amazing this child’s imagination is.  she really did need “boats” for her little people to sail to “hound town” (as she later told me).  she continued to play for another 45 minutes with SHOES, and i listened to every word in complete awe of such youthful creativity. as they say… “it’s not the toy they play with, it’s the box”.  in our case it’s the shoes!

beauty in the most unusual places...

lunch, as always in the ferreira stoddard household, and what do i find in the most ordinary watermelon? ....beauty.  this pattern really threw me for a loop.  i was shocked at how striking it was (not to mention watermelons typically have no patterns in them).    nature is amazing!

winter inspiration

the moment i purchased this coat for Che', Che' (as we like to call her), i knew a fun winter shot would be in order.  the problem in capturing this so called "winter shot" was one of many (willing participant, TIME, TIME and of course our mild winters)...but thankfully the winter gods looked down on me and decided that this particular morning, snow would fall (and man did it ever).  problem was it usually doesn't last (so i needed to do it now, or i may lose my chance) and we were already running 15 minutes late as is (dam you snow pants and mittens).  now if you are as hard core as i can be you know where this story is going.  i grabbed my camera, grabbed Che', Che' and stole 3 more minutes from my child's learning that morning.  result: a winter shot that i love.
