But I didn't win a ribbon? | Klutch Photography | Vancouver family photographer

june is a nightmare for parents, the commitments, the events. the finale to the  school year is nuts...we should get awarded tee shirts that state "i survived june" on the 24th. I swear more coffee and booze is consumed in this month then all others.

this weeks event...TRACK AND FIELD!

my babe (the oldest one) does track and on a whole, she's good at it, runs hard, committed and is selected for numerous races. this is the third and final track meet of the year. it's the big one and it's an all day affair.  the kids love it, as parents scramble to find ways to get there kids there and back while juggling their own work schedules to watch some of the events. both the hubby and i were able to watch a few of che's events, lucky us!

she ran hard, strong and clean races. her arms stayed tight to her body...usually she "chicken arms" (as scene in soccer games).  she did three long distance events in almost full sun all day and two others. there was not a thing she did wrong.

but she didn't place in any of her events. she didn't win a ribbon. this was not a "problem" for us as parents-she just wasn't as strong or as fast as the others. period. she is learning how to compete, win, lose or otherwise and that's what this is really about. learning. (ok yes winning f'n rocks but that's not going to happen every time!)

she kept asking, what event did i do best in....my response was ALL OF THEM. you nailed all of them. you were just not as strong as the other kids competing. i explained that everything she did was spot on - everything!  the others were older, or trained more or had more natural ability.  that's all.

The only thing you could have done was train more...or be in grade six (as that was who she was competing against grade 5's and 6's). every part of me is proud of her, i told her over and over.

che- "but i didn't win a ribbon"!

me- "you don't need a ribbon to prove you tried your best, we know you did!

This never gets old | Klutch Photography | Vancouver family photographer

we arrived home to a perfectly clean house, happy kids and one AMAZING mother in law that said "she loved having them" for almost 12 days.

Blessed are we.

i cried when I saw my youngest. Yet during our travels i shed not one tear, as i knew they were in good hands! i knew they had a great time as the entire butter dish (a full block) was gone (which takes a year to go through normally in my house, lol), more freezies were bought and the ice cream was loved.

our day of catching up was very normal, lots of hugs & kisses, routines and ramblings of school yard shenanigans.  i took every opportunity to sniff my girlies yummy necks as there is nothing more devine then the sent of your babies and of course photos of them at play.

that night dad was voted off the island (our bed), as they needed the mom cuddle but what they didn't know is that i needed it more then them. it's really like sleeping with a debris filled, churning ocean (limbs, blankets, stuffies and bouncing all night long).  my sleep was shit but worth every lost hour.

being a mom is by far the best job in the world and coming home to this never gets old.

A new type of prescription- Palm Springs? | Klutch Photography | Vancouver family photographer

i'm not sure where the last nine years went but i'm sure glad we've spent all of those nine years (during spring break that is) in palm springs.  i know what your thinking  "PALM SPRINGS? ahhh really!? isn't that place for old people drying out there arthritic joints for six months out of the year? that's where tennis was originated right? and some really popular jazz people hung out there I think"?

Ok sure, i get it. stereotypes (just like Surrey has been called cough, cough...many things but I have the best community, that you don't see because you don't live there!)

there's just something about that heat and the sun everyday!  just when you think you can't take anymore of vancouver's daily showers and you try to fight it by wearing inappropriate seasonal clothing, or maybe get those summer highlights early in hope of some persuasive weather change - nope.

Palm Springs reaches out and gives you a lifeline, it throws you a rope and says "hang on canucks, your glorious summer is on it's way".

this place is for new and old, family's or just single folk. it's literally like having a shot glass size of summer that gets you all drunk with happiness, going on day trips, gets you hiking with snakes, strips your honky white body into a bathing suit, drinking beers pool side, shopping at ross dress for less...loving life so much again, that it can literally carry your sorry ass through those last view weeks of WTF weather we tend to get here in Vancouver.

our doctors, should try prescribing this option for all those winter blues clients.  you know as an alternative to drugs for happiness.  and perhaps it might cost you less in the long run. just saying.

If you have never been, give it a "shot" - I think you might like it.

***thank you Barb and Ken for allowing our girls and us to dry out & build lifetime memories. you let us take over your space, your fridge and your holiday for a week (or so) every year - so very grateful!!***

here's a video recap of the trip, if you like snooping through other peoples personal memories! lol, just kidding, go ahead press play, your not a stocker! it's long so get a drink.
