Journal Entry No. 37 | Klutch Photography | Vancouver family photographer

NO TV FOR A WEEK  (or for the rest of the day)!!!

This is my go-to punishment for most things including when they're taking advantage of watching to much TV!  I find when my kids are binging on TV for long stretches, their less co-operative, snappy, bored more often and kind of like human zombies!

It's not an easy punishment to deal with, they're like addicts, and they don't know what to do with themselves for the first few days then they settle into creativity. WHICH I LOVE.  They remember their board games and start to play them, read, paint, go on hikes, play outside (I know right, shocking!). This past weekend they made a couture dress from recyclables! French chic as they told me!

Guess what; I'm ok with being the mean mom because I'm not here to be their best friend I'm here to make them into kind, savvy, independent ladies!

Here's to being a bad mom and letting their boredom rise their creativity higher!

Blanket Vampire | Klutch Photography | Vancouver Family photographer

Blanket Vampire; (blankeet Vanpierr)

A child or adult who does not feel well. They tend to hide under blankets while covering most of their face leaving only their eyes exposed. You can find blanket vampires predominantly located on a family sofa and very occasionally in their own beds.

Blanket Vampires are seasonal creatures known to surface primarily from September through April in colder wet climates, in the poor dietary season such as Halloween, Christmas, Valentines and Easter when sugar is a main source of nutrition.

It's strongly recommended to not disturb these creatures as their temperament can be unpredictable causing verbal anger or unreasonable requests. Also, know to moan cries of "why me".

If you have disturbed the Blanket Vampire mistakenly back away slowly, do not make direct eye contact and follow the requests they have made.

Why my kids, need to just be kids | Klutch photography| Vancouver family photographer

I'm very passionate about my kids not owning devices and having social media accounts (along with very limited wifi and it's supervised). I believe in kids being kids, letting them be bored, having chores, using their imagination and spending one on one time with my people.

I'm not a scientist, I do not have a degree in Psychology but I can tell you it's been one of the BEST decisions I've made in my life as a parent without reports telling me I should. They are not always happy with me, I DON'T FUCKING CARE. Why, because my job is to do the best to grow them into strong, confident, smart thinking and kind people not to make best friends with my kids.  If my kids wanted to eat candy for dinner every night I would say fuck no, this is no different!

This article right here (from Your Modern Family- The scary truth about what's hurting our kids) is why I do me, why I do this"NOT THE NORM" deprived my children of technology, make them play outside, give them chores and have consequences style of parenting.  The world is HARD (as is), why would I give them access to something that will cause them to dought themselves, drain their imagination and give them anxiety at such a young age.

They will have a phone in high school (at some point), my hope is that they will be older and street smarter by then to understand the amazing way to use these devices and to be safe and smart about it.

If your child is suffering from mental illness please read this article, it might add some light or help a little!
